The board is full metallic with mesh pattern. Metal is a good heat tranducer so that while ironing heat does not build up on the board causing potential damages. The cover pad is made of needle punched cotton and it is better than sponge because prolong exposure to heat can cause sponges to deteriorate and become powdery, but cotton does not. Also cotton is more resistant to pressure than sponge preventing the mesh pattern of the board to develop on clothing that are being ironed.
